Historic Childrens Park

Over 70 years ago a small group of Miami Police Officers got together and decided to form the Miami Police Benevolent Association. The main purpose of the organization was to create good will in the community and establish a playground for underprivileged children in the Miami area. For decades the Children's Park served thousand of children and made a day at the facility enjoyable for them and their families.

Presently the park’s equipment is in desperate need of an “extreme makeover.” The amusement park rides need up-dating.  Currently there is an old roller coaster, old Ferris wheel and two (2) a small circular kid rides.  The park also has old playground equipment and a small concession stand.  The area we had a kid’s train is still there, but there are no tracks and no train.  The building that covered our old merry-go-round is still there, but empty of a merry-go–round.

To remodel the children’s park there is almost nothing that does not to be completely removed and/or replaced.  However, the long concrete covered children’s picnic area could remain, if it fits into the overall new design currently being worked on.

Proposed Overview of a new, modern and child friendly park.

The current location of the park is still a great spot.  It is very visible from the road and with the suggested changes, it could easily again be a showcase for children and our organization.

The amusement park rides are the highlight of this park.  The children’s eyes light up as soon as they enter the grounds.  It is important to maintain this aspect of the park.  It would be beneficial to replace the current rides with new or relatively new equipment.  The following rides are recommended:

  • A small roller coaster would be most exciting for the children
  • A small Ferris wheel has for years shown to be very popular
  • New circular rides of police cars and second ride of fire trucks would be appropriate for the park.
  • And the addition of an old favorite, a new train ride.  In addition, it would be one of the few train rides in South Florida.
  • A new Merry-Go-Round

Check back soon as we add the history of the childrens park and more information about making donations and how you can help.

The current entrance to the park shows the need for the renovation.
